While Driving Down the Road One Day....
I just happened to come across this guy and his harem of 20 or so cows. This is the largest bull elk I've gotten close to - he is just magnificent! I don't know how many points - can't really tell from this angle. Hopefully I see him and his friends again before rifle season starts in October. I'd love to be able to get some better shots of this guy.

Olive The Finch
This is cool story. One day my son came running home and he told he had seen a bird hit by a car. He said the bird was still alive too.
So I got a cat crate, got in the car, and drove down the street with him. Sure enough, a female goldfinch was lying there and she was alive. I gently picked up up and put her in the crate. We drove her home.
Devon helped me put some grass and water in the crate, and we put it under the steps where the bird could get some light, yet be safe from all of our cats. Devon named the bird Olive since she was an olive green color.
We kept her for a day or so and she looked better all the time. Then we took her to the park near where other birds were and we let her go. We watched her hop away towards her friends and I remember thinking that she would do just fine.
Fast forward a couple of months towards fall and my sunflowers were shedding seeds like you wouldn't believe. One day I looked up and there was a female goldfinch helping herself to lunch. I got my camera and took this shot.
I can't be sure if this is really Olive or not, but I like to think it is and that she made a full recovery. This all happened in 2006 and our home burned in 2007 so I never saw the finches again. Still I have some great memories of helping a bird survive and of my son and I working together on something important like this.
This photo is for sale on my site, http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/mtwildchild. Photos I sell do not have watermarks - these are for protection purposes only.
Come on by sometime and take a look at some of my work. Let me know what you think.
Until next time,

Welcome!
This is my first post and hopefully it won't bore anyone to tears.
I love driving around taking photos of animals, sunsets, rock formations, etc. Anything I see is fair game. The shots don't always come out the way I want, or express the feeling I wanted them to. Then there are those that exceed expectations. It really is a crap shoot for me.
Most of my photos are of animals, especially wildlife. You'll also see horse and scenic shots. I try to tell a little about the photo and what makes it interesting. For example:
These mulie fawns were staring straight at their mom. They look like mirror images of each other. You can see they've started to shed the baby coat, yet they still have their spots. They didn't move a bit until I whistled at them. Some people may not like the grass blowing in their faces, but that is why I like it so much. I feel like it adds something.
Deer are among my favorite subjects - they are very plentiful and fun to take photos of.
That's all for now as the hour is late and I have to get going early. More later.
